Dear Friends,
Refugees with ASSK
Aung San Suu Kyi, or Daw Suu as she is fondly known by most refugees, has visited Mae Hla refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border. The video clip shown here -after a tedious ad which I cannot remove- gives some views of the camp and hints to the ambiguity facing the people. To me the ironic statement "We need our lady so she can bring democracy...", expresses well the misunderstandings of the Burmese people about democracy.

Her trip has already caused some problems for the governments of Burma and Thailand. In an attempt to quite down the reaction of the people to this overwhelmingly popular leader, the Thai government refused to allow Daw Suu to speak to her people over appropriate sound equipment so all could hear, and President Thein Sein of Burma has already canceled his planned trip to Thailand.

Changes are not going to come easily to the people of Burma.

Best Regards,
